Pope: "In the city live – o sopravvivono – persone invisibili, che ogni tanto balzano in prima pagina o sui teleschermi, e vengono sfruttate fino all’ultimo, finché la notizia e l’immagine attirano l’attenzione. E’ un meccanismo perverso, al quale purtroppo si stenta a resistere. La città prima nasconde e poi espone al pubblico. Senza pietà, o con una falsa pietà. BENEDICT XVI: LETTER TO THE CARD. Bagnasco "GOD, THE CENTRAL QUESTION FOR OUR TIME"

an "important initiative, which addresses one of the major themes that have always fascinated the human spirit and wonder" as Pope Benedict XVI has called the conference "God today: with him or without him changes everything, "held in Rome, in a message sent to the President of the Italian Bishops Conference, Cardinal. Angelo Bagnasco, and read by Msgr. Marian Crusade, Secretary General of the CEI (full text on Agensir.it).
The Pope said once that "the question of God is central to our age, which often tends to reduce man to a single dimension, that 'Horizontal', considered irrelevant to his life open to the Transcendent. The relationship with God, however, is essential for humanity's progress and, as I have ruled on several occasions, the Church and all Christians have the task just to make God present in this world, trying to open to humanity 'access to God. " "With this in mind - he added Benedict XVI - is at the international event in recent days.
The breadth of approach to the important theme that characterizes the meeting, will draw a picture of the rich and the question of God, but also as a stimulus for a deeper reflection on the place God occupies in the culture and life of our time. "
Reflecting on the nature and contents of the international conference that opens today in Rome, Benedict XVI went on to say: "On the one hand (..) you want to show the various roads leading to uphold the truth about the existence of God, that God that mankind has always somehow known, even in the chiaroscuro of its history, and that turned out with the splendor of his face into alliance with the people of Israel and, beyond all measure and waiting fully and permanently, in Jesus Christ. These - the Pope said - is the Son of God, the living one who comes in the life and history man to shed his grace with his presence. " "On the other hand, you want to put their light on the vital importance that God has for us, for our personal and social life, for understanding ourselves and the world, for the hope that illuminates our path to the salvation that awaits us beyond death, "Benedict XVI added, stressing the different arts, sciences and disciplines involved in the work of the conference.
In concluding his message to the President of the CEI, the Pope then said: "In a cultural and spiritual situation like the one we are living, where there is a growing tendency to relegate God to the private sphere, to regard it as irrelevant and superfluous, or to reject it explicitly, I sincerely hope that this event will contribute at least to dispel the gloom that makes it insecure and fearful for the people of our time, the openness to God, though he never ceases to knock at our door. " "The experiences of the past, not far from us, they teach that when God disappears from the horizon of man, mankind loses focus and is likely to take steps towards the destruction of itself. Faith in God - concluded Benedict XVI - the man opens the horizon of a certain hope that does not disappoint, indicating a solid foundation on which to rest without fear life, and calls to surrender with trust in mani dell’Amore che sostiene il mondo”.
